Cleaning the Air with Activated Carbon

High-performance carbon filters to remove odors, toxic gases, and pollution from the air.

Common formPellets

Extruded pellets pack evenly into gas-flow beds.

Made fromCoal · Coconut

Coal for bulk vapours, coconut for trace odours.

Easy air flowLow Resistance

Shaped so air passes through with minimal pressure drop.

01Overview

Why Air Cleaning is a Unique Challenge

The carbon only has a fraction of a second to work.

What it removes
  • Bad Odours
  • Chemical Vapours
  • Toxic Gases
  • Ammonia
  • Solvents

In water, contaminants have time to soak into the carbon. In air, the gas rushes by instantly. Also, humidity in the air can clog the carbon, and any dust from weak carbon will blow into the clean air. This is why we often use carbon shaped into little pellets—they are strong, dust-free, and let air pass smoothly.

5570

% CTC

A common measurement showing how much gas the carbon can absorb.

02How it works

From analysis to changeout

The carbon is one stage in a train, not the whole of it.

01

Testing the Air

We measure exactly what chemicals are in the air, how fast it is moving, and how humid it is.

02

Picking the Carbon

We choose the right carbon shape (pellets or granules) and decide if we need special chemical treatments to destroy specific toxic gases.

03

Filter Design

We calculate how thick the carbon layer must be to trap the gases in the split second the air passes through.

04

Safe Disposal

Once the carbon is completely full of trapped gases, we help plan a safe way to remove and replace it.

03Recommended grades

The carbon this duty asks for

The grades that fit air & gas treatment — and what each is good at.

Pellets

Pelletised Activated Carbon

Extruded · 3mm / 4mm

Carbon shaped into tiny, strong cylinders. Because they are all the same shape, air flows around them easily without needing massive fans to push it.

  • Factory exhaust
  • Chemical vapor cleanup
  • Deep air filters
GAC

Granular Activated Carbon

Coconut shell · Coal based

Used in thinner filters where air doesn't need to travel through a deep bed of carbon. Great for smaller, standard air conditioning or odor control units.

  • Odour control
  • Office air filters
  • Exhaust scrubbing
04Key properties

The figures that decide fit

What each property actually governs once the bed is running.

CTC Activity

%
55 – 70 typical

A lab test that proves how much chemical vapor the carbon can hold.

Pressure Drop

Pa
Low typical

How hard it is to blow air through the filter. Lower is better, saving energy on giant industrial fans.

Hardness

%
95+ typical

Tough carbon won't crumble into dust. You don't want black carbon dust blowing into your clean air.

Pellet Diameter

mm

Commonly 3mm or 4mm. Thicker pellets let air flow easier but might not trap gases as quickly.

05Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Pellets are smooth and identically shaped. They stack perfectly in a filter, leaving even gaps for the air to flow easily, which saves a lot of electricity on the fans.

It doesn't ruin it, but it takes up space. If the carbon is filled with water vapor, it has less room to catch toxic gases. We just have to design the filter a bit bigger if the air is wet.

Absolutely. Activated carbon is the industry standard for removing smells, whether it is from a factory, a sewage plant, or just a large office building.
